UIB makes senior aviation & space hire from MS Amlin Syndicate

Re/insurance broker UIB has appointed Miles Taffs as deputy managing director of its aviation & space team.

Taffs has over 30 years of experience in the aviation and space classes, in both broking and underwriting, having held positions with Willis, WAIG, Allianz Global Corporate Specialty, and most recently as joint active underwriter and board director of Syndicate 2001. His tenure at MS Amlin included being head of aviation until 2014 and then as an executive board member of Syndicate 2001 and head of marine and aviation for the Lloyd’s placed business.

Taffs will report directly to Craig Fisher, UIB’s managing director of aviation.

Fisher said: “We are very proud of the team’s Aviation & Space expertise here at UIB, but with the additional knowledge and depth that Miles will bring, our offer becomes even more compelling. He will add value in a multitude of areas.”

Shaun Barrington, CEO of United Insurance Brokers (UIBL) added: “Miles’ appointment is part of our long term commitment to this class of business and cements its strategic importance within the UIB group and to our valued clients.”

Taffs commented: “I am very pleased to be joining such a well-respected team, in a company with a strong reputation of client service. It is a tremendously exciting opportunity and challenge in a market that has dynamically changed. I look forward to adding value to our client offering and delivering continued success to the UIB Group.”
