SSL Endeavour reveals management shake-up post merger; Karen Allen steps down

Lloyd's broker and delegated authority specialist SSL Endeavour, which has  merged under private investment firm JC Flowers, has reshuffled its management team. The move has led to the departure of top executives such as  Karen Allen who joined the company nearly four months ago.

Under the new management structure, SSL Endeavour executive chairman David Lawrence will become the group CEO of the combined entity, while Roger Spicer will step down from his SSL Insurance CEO role.

Spicer will now focus solely on clients as marine business development director.

Allen, CEO-designate of Endeavour and managing director of combined SSL Endeavour who joined from Howden UK in October last year, will leave the business to take up opportunities outside the company.

Furthermore, marine director and head of broking Gillian Martin will be promoted to managing director, marine.

The company said the strengthening and repositioning of the management team comes amid a continued focus on operational excellence during the integration of SSL and Endeavour Insurance Services.

“One of the great benefits of the innovative merger of SSL and Endeavour was giving us the flexibility and agility to reimagine our combined businesses going forwards, and with it the opportunity to put the entrepreneurial talent of our leadership team to best use," said SSL Endeavour Group CEO David Lawrence.

"As we progress with our group integration, it is vital to focus on the needs of our clients and on a smooth and stable transition into an effective combined entity, and we will continue to focus on organic and inorganic growth opportunities in the wholesale brokerage market."

Lawrence added: "I am delighted to welcome Gillian to the management team as managing director of Marine, her expertise is impressive and her team will benefit from her leadership and insight going forwards. At the same time I thank Karen Allen for all the hard work she put in during her time with us, and wish her well for the future.

"I also am very pleased that SSL Endeavour will continue to benefit from Roger Spicer’s deep knowledge and established network in the Marine sector as marine business development director. His focus on generating and servicing new business is central to helping SSL Endeavour maintain stability and growth as we continue to move forwards with our integration.

Lastly, we will soon be welcoming the SSL team across to their new base, joining the Endeavour team at our head offices in Bevis Marks at the end of February, and it will be particularly gratifying to have the entire London-based team under one roof, working together as we continue to grow the SSL Endeavour platform – a business that is very well placed for future expansion.”
