MGA Gentium Motor launches on Volante platform

Volante Global, a multi-class and multi-territory international managing general agent (MGA) platform, has launched Gentium Motor and the appointment of Neil Smith as managing director.

Gentium Motor is an MGA focused on the international motor sector and is based in the London Market.

Smith was previously portfolio manager, international motor at QBE. Prior to this he was a senior underwriter at Ensign Motor Policies and also at Torch Motor Policies. Most recently, Smith held a senior position within the broking sector.

Gentium Motor focuses on two specific market sectors: niche motor-related schemes and affinity groups, including high-value and classic motor schemes and vehicle owners’ clubs; and large, complex ‘one-off’ risks. The business writes on both a conventional and non-conventional basis, developing precisely tailored insurance solutions based on robust pricing models and comprehensive actuarial analysis.

Operating on Volante’s proprietary underwriting platform, Gentium Motor aims to capitalise on the platform’s technology to maximise its underwriting performance and ensure its ability to respond quickly and efficiently to the most complex risk scenarios.

Smith said: “Gentium Motor introduces a totally new international motor proposition to the London Market. Our aim is to work collaboratively with specialist local-market brokers and coverholders to deliver exceptional on-the-ground service fully backed by A+ financial security. Our operating platform enables us to be flexible, efficient and responsive, delivering highly customised products in a timely manner.”

Talbir Bains, founder and CEO of Volante, added: “We are delighted to be announcing the launch of Gentium Motor today and Neil’s appointment as managing director. The business is the first of the nine new teams joining Volante Global under the multi-class, multi-territory treaty agreement secured with our three strategic-partner Global carriers‎ in June.

“Our commitment to achieving full alignment with the strategic objectives of our carriers guides the direction that we have set for Gentium Motor. We are focused on generating strong returns on capacity by delivering superior insurance products and services, supported by our technology-driven underwriting platform which ensures optimal performance at every stage in the process.”

Gentium Motor is the second MGA to launch from the Volante Global platform into the motor arena. In January, the company launched Edison Motor, a London Market-based MGA that provides comprehensive commercial motor insurance products to niche markets in the UK.
