Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Brook Styles as cargo, specie and terrorism underwriter, in its London office.

Brook has over 13 years’ experience in marine underwriting, beginning his career at Markel. He re-joins Markel from Pioneer Underwriting, where he was most recently head of marine specialty.

Reporting to Chris Fenn, divisional managing director of international marine, Brook will be working with the cargo, specie and terrorism teams on existing portfolios as well as helping to drive new products.

Commenting on the appointment, Chris Fenn said: “We’re delighted to welcome Brook back to Markel and look forward to the important role he will be playing in the further development of our marine capabilities.

“He brings with him a strong network of broker relationships, excellent technical underwriting abilities and a wealth of knowledge and expertise in these key classes”.
