Joint Hull Committee appoints AXA's Newton as new chairman
London-based Joint Hull Committee (JHC) has appointed Paul Newton as its new chairman, succeeding Peter Townsend, who stepped down in June.
Newton is the head of London marine hull & liability underwriting at AXA Corporate Solutions.
The JHC comprises underwriting representatives from both the Lloyd’s and the International Underwriting Association of London (IUA) company markets and represents the interests of those who write marine hull business in the London market.
Newton has been involved in marine insurance for over 30 years, starting as a claims broker in 1988, and moving to the company underwriting market side in 1991. His roles since 2008 have extended to assessing the shape and direction of international marine hull business for Allianz, Lancashire and as AXA’s head of London marine hull & liability underwriting since 2013. He also chairs the IUA’s Marine Technical Committee and is a member of the Joint War Committee.
