Arch CFO returns to AIG as chief actuary for general insurance
American International Group (AIG) has rehired Mark Lyons as senior vice president and chief actuary, general insurance.
Lyons has served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Arch Capital Group since 2012. He joined Arch in 2002, and served in various capacities within Arch Insurance US operations, eventually rising to chairman and CEO of Arch Worldwide Insurance Group. Prior to joining Arch, Lyons held various positions at Zurich US, Berkshire Hathaway as well as AIG.
“Mark’s broad and deep expertise along with his demonstrated track record leading high-performing teams will be a great asset as we redefine the value we deliver to clients and broker partners in a dynamic risk environment,” said AIG CEO general insurance Peter Zaffino. “I am pleased to welcome Mark back to AIG as we implement best practices and drive improvement in our core business performance.”
In his new role, Lyons will lead the general insurance global actuarial organisation and report to Zaffino. Lyons will also serve as a member of the general insurance executive leadership team.
Lyons will oversee actuarial strategy and provide input into key general insurance strategic decisions, as well as pricing and reserving practices. The actuarial reserving unit will also report into the general insurance chief financial officer.
Lyons commented: “I am extremely pleased to be rejoining such an iconic brand after nearly 33 years. I am also excited to join the impressive leadership team that Peter is building, and I look forward to actuarial being intimately involved in all areas of the business.”
Arch Capital Group has appointed François Morin as executive vice president and chief financial officer, replacing Lyons.
