Allstate partners with Uber in NY
US personal lines insurer Allstate is expanding its partnership with Uber Technologies with a new commercial auto offering in the New York State.
The new ridesharing coverage will be available to Uber drivers and riders for all rides originating outside of the five boroughs of New York City. The policy, managed by Allstate Business Insurance, provides coverage from when a driver-partner turns on the Uber app to begin accepting rides, heads to pick up a rider and through the time when the trip ends.
Allstate began offering coverage to protect Uber drivers and riders in Illinois, New Jersey and Wisconsin in March of this year.
"Just one of the ways Allstate is innovating and transforming our business to best serve customers and their individual protection needs is by expanding and meeting the commercial auto coverage needs of ridesharing drivers and transportation network companies," said Mike Barton, president of Allstate Business Insurance. "Allstate is a leader in the personal transportation industry and committed to providing insurance solutions that address the changing market."
Curtis Scott, Uber's global head of insurance, said: "Uber's commitment to safety includes our pledge that every Uber trip is insured. With over 10 million trips daily, we recognize the need for a strong insurance partner like Allstate. We are excited to work with Allstate to bring their trusted brand of service to the Empire State to help protect our riders and driver-partners outside of New York City."
