Lloyd's introduces drinking ban for staff during business hours
Lloyd's of London has introduced a ban on the consumption of alcohol during business hours.
The ban affects corporation staff – anyone employed by Lloyd's – but not the numerous underwriters and brokers working there.
"We have updated our employee guidance and it provides clarification on the rules around alcohol consumption, which is prohibited during business hours. The guidance removes any ambiguity on the policy," a Lloyd's spokesperson said.
This prohibition of drinking policy was updated as part of a review of Lloyd's guidance, which usually takes place every 18 months.
The review to change the alcohol policy was decided so it was more in line with what is common across most businesses, and not just insurance, according to the spokesperson.
"Our employee guidance is normally updated around 18 months to ensure it reflects common practices and standards across the industry and wider business and this guidance ensures we are in line with a number of businesses in the sector who also adopt similar policies," the spokesperson continued.
Among those affected are regulatory and policy specialists, accountants, lawyers and press officers.
