Ed hires Gen Re exec as head of legal and compliance risk
Reinsurance, wholesale and specialty broker Ed has appointed Joanne Merrick as head of legal, risk and compliance.
Merrick will take up her role in June and report to group commercial director Andrew Wallin.
Merrick joins Ed from Gen Re where she served as regional general counsel for 15 years, responsible for managing legal and compliance risk for the company's UK and Africa platforms, as well as providing legal support to Gen Re’s offices worldwide.
Prior to that, Merrick served as head of legal and company secretary at Trenwick International. She began her career as an insurance solicitor for Hogan Lovells.
Wallin commented: "Over the past year we have undergone tremendous change. We have significantly expanded our geographical reach and entered into new lines of business. We have taken a major step forward in developing our integrated global MGA business unit.
"As we grow, we need a high calibre individual who has a track record of managing legal and compliance risk in the international re/insurance space and Joanne brings a wealth of legal and compliance expertise and experience to Ed. I am delighted to welcome her to the team."
Merrick added: "The vision that Andrew and the team have for Ed made the decision to join the team an easy one. The transformation journey they’re undertaking makes it an exciting opportunity – one that certainly stands out in the market. I’m looking forward to getting started and ensuring that Ed’s clear business vision and strategy are backed by first rate legal, risk and compliance support."
