Barbican taps XL Catlin's class underwriter for upstream energy
London-based Barbican Insurance Group has appointed Jacqueline Wiffen as a class underwriter for upstream energy. She will report to Olivier Decombes, divisional head of energy, power and utilities.
Wiffen most recently served as class underwriter, upstream energy at XL Catlin, having taken up the role in July 2014. Prior to this, she was regional director, Asia Pacific, for power, energy and construction at Lockton, Singapore, and energy underwriter at Catlin, Singapore.
"Jacqueline brings expansive expertise in the energy sector to our team," Decombes said. "Her career has extended along the full length of the energy stream, given her both the insurance and broking perspective, and seen her work on global as well as region-specific portfolios.
"Despite current challenging market conditions, we see potential for growth across the energy sector, and to fully capitalise on that we need to ensure we have the best market talent throughout our team."
Wiffen added: "It is a very exciting time to be joining Barbican’s energy division. The team are incredibly motivated, and have the wealth of experience and underwriting acumen needed to forge ahead in the energy sector. Olivier has put in place a very clear strategy for achieving sustainable growth and I am very much looking forward to helping to deliver on that strategy."
